Power, not posters
Icouldn’t help but laugh at the saga of the billboards (“BCM Defends Big Increase in Billboards Around City, DD Jan 26) and specifically the minute amount of revenue they generate for a year — R1.7m.
That will barely cover the salary and perks of just one government fat cat.
No wonder BCM wants many more billboards, because the gravy train is indeed very long.
There is no doubt this money will never be used to uplift the people of this city, whether in the form of a job, housing or water supply.
If greedy energy minister Gwede Mantashe cared that the people are suffering he would cut the red tape and focus on bringing cheaper and more consistent electricity to households and businesses.
Solar panels and alternative private electricity generation would be far more beneficial than massive, useless billboards.
We need power, not posters!
