Inmates stab warders

The department of correctional services has vowed to take action against inmates who stabbed prison warders on Wednesday at the St Albans prison in Gqeberha.

Spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo said the department was displeased by the two inmates, who stabbed three officials on Wednesday.

“Behaviour of this nature cannot go unpunished,” he said, adding the department would take action against the perpetrators.

The incident took place during breakfast in the medium B section.

“A full investigation will be conducted internally, and a criminal case registered with the SAPS. We wish our officials a speedy recovery. Support is being provided.”
